Taraba State governor, Darius, Dickson Ishaku, has ordered the extension of the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on Jalingo to 24 hours in order to curtail the unrest in parts of the state especially the capital.
The crisis erupted following the declaration of governorship election results early on Tuesday.
A statement signed by Bala Dan, Senior Special Assistant on Media to Gov. Ishaku directed security agencies in the state to “ensure strict enforcement of the curfew which takes immediate effect.”
Earlier, the governor urged his supporters to “ensure moderation in their celebration to avoid any form of provocation and leave no room for anyone to take advantage and cause confusion in any part of the state.
“This victory is for all of us, so long as we are from Taraba State, and so we must celebrate like brothers and sisters, eschewing all forms of political bitterness.”
Our correspondent reports that Jalingo, woke up to wide jubilation after the governor was declared the winner of the governorship election in the state and returned elected.
It would be recalled that the governor had on Monday, imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Jalingo prior to the declaration of the results.
