Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has dedicated all that his administration has achieved in one year to the poor masses of Benue state.
The Governor stated this known at the School of Medical Sciences, Benue State University, (BSU), Makurdi during a Symposium and Public Lecture organized in his honour to mark his one year in office as Governor.
He said democracy as he knew, was crafted in a way that the general masses were the drivers and not a few individuals.
He said he belonged to the constituency of the poor, the suppressed and the oppressed adding that anyone working in his government who has no regard to the yearnings of the poor masses of Benue State is on their own.
He outlined his achievements in the areas of health, education, agriculture, security, transport, infrastructure as well as improved welfare of civil servants, promising to continue to execute more projects that would be of great value to the entire Benue community.
Governor Alia said they were not going to commission those projects now since his mind was so committed to delivering more projects to Benue State, adding that a proper time of commissioning those projects will be chosen in due course.
Earlier, Rev. Fr. Patrick Alumuku, Ode Ojowu, Dr. Philip Vande, and the Managing Director Benue Investment Property Company Limited (BIPC), Dr. Raymond Asemakaha gave lectures on different topics all aimed at repositioning Benue State on the path of economic growth and development.
In a message, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state, Prof. Mvendega Jibo applauded Governor Alia’s resilience and commitment in transforming Benue State highlighting the quality of road infrastructure and other services the Governor is bequeathing to the younger generation.
Prof. Jibo drew the attention of the Governor to the abandoned water plant in Ameladu – Gboko Local Government Area of the state, advising him to liaise with the LG council authorities find a way of fixing it.
Jibo who noted that Benue has rivers, said water should be running 24 hours in Makurdi, Gboko, Otukpo and Katsina-Ala LGAs.
Also in their separate goodwill messages, delegates from the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the National Woman leader, Dr. Mary Alile appreciated Governor Alia for his transformative achievements in one year and called on Benue people to continue to support the Governor to bring more dividends of democracy to them.
Our correspondent reports that Governor Hyacinth Alia who took over power as the 6th democratically elected governor of Benue State on May 29, 2023, has, in the last one year delivered a number of democracy dividend to the Benue people including ensuring timely delivery of fertilizers to farmers at subsidized rate, construction of 16 roads in Makurdi metropolis with work ongoing construction of underpasses in Makurdi and Gboko towns and on several other roads in the rural areas.
Governor Alia has also remodelled the Benue State House of Assembly Complex, renovated and furnished the Benue State Secretariat Complex, connected the Benue State Secretariat, Government House, and Water board to 33KVA transformer to ensure constant supply of electricity.
In the health, Alia has revived the Muhammad Buhari Mothercare and Child Hospital in Makurdi, brought in a new leadership at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH, Makurdi, procured advanced standard medical equipment and employed over medical 400 staff and specialists for improved efficiency.
Using the Palliatives funds, Governor Alia has purchased 100 new buses for Benue Links, the state government owned transport company to cushion the hard effect of fuel subsidy removal on travellers and has constructed drainages round the Benue Links Main park in Makurdi and asphalted the premises of the company to avoid flooding.
He said all the projects would be commissioned soon.
