Goodbye, Ahanna! Nollywood stars mourn Francis Duru

Duru

The death of veteran Nollywood actor, Francis Duru, popularly known as Ahanna for his memorable role in the classic film, Rattlesnake, has left colleagues and admirers mourning the loss of a talented actor whose contributions helped shape the Nigerian film industry.

Following his passing, his colleagues have continued to pay tribute to the late actor, recalling their personal encounters with him, his humility, encouragement, and enduring impact on the industry.

While some expressed shock and grief over his sudden departure, others celebrated his legacy and the joy he brought to audiences through his craft.

I’m short of words –Ngozi Ezeh

I have absolutely nothing to say. I am just short of words. This pain is deep. The last time we saw each other was in Abuja; we hugged, talked about the old times, and had a good reunion on that set. This is deep. I remember the movie, Narrow Escape, in the 90s.

It’s well, but God knows best. Rest in peace, Francis Duru. You were indeed a legend. Go well.

I’ll cherish the beautiful memory he left with me –Jane Obi

I met this legendary man for the first time at the Coal City Film Festival two years ago, and I will never forget that encounter. He walked up to me and said, “Oh, so you are Jane Obi? I didn’t know. Let me tell you something—you are so good and authentic. I’m a fan.” He went on to tell me never to doubt myself, to keep doing what I was doing, and that one day the world would appreciate my talent. Those words stayed with me. It was my first time meeting him, yet he spoke to me with such warmth, humility and genuine kindness. He had absolutely no reason to make me feel that seen, but he did. Today, hearing that he is no more feels so sad! Some people may never know the impact of a few kind words they leave behind. But I will always remember his.

Rest well, legend. Thank you for the encouragement, the humility and the beautiful memory you left with me. You will be remembered.

The Harmony Of The Harmonica.  The Scene Ends. Fade To Black. End Credits Roll

All words are true, except that this is not a movie… An erudite thespian has taken a bow! The legend Francis Duru.

I watched you as a boy when you played AHANNA in Rattle Snake, and I am glad that when my dreams finally took flight, I had the pleasure of watching you again from behind the camera! At the shout of every ACTION, the little boy still hiding somewhere in me remembered that VHS tape where I first saw you! In Nollywood’s story, there are definitely chapters with your name engraved in gold! Rest well, Ahanna.

I’m still in shock –Empress Njamah

Rest in peace, my brother, Nna Francis Duru

This came as a rude shock. We had planned to see you on Sunday, but the Director of Life had other plans. The scene has ended, and the curtain has fallen. Fade to black. Scene ends.  A legend takes his eternal bow.

Rest in peace, my brother, Nna Francis Duru

Oh, death! Why so sudden? Your scene may have ended, but your memories will live on.

Adieu, my brother.

May he continue to rest in peace –Kate Henshaw

Like a flame gone out, so are our lives when it all ends. Rest on, Francis Duru. May the Lord God accept your soul, give you rest and comfort your loved ones left behind. Teach us to number our days, O Lord, as we navigate this journey called life.
