The residents of Wuro Funawo in Tumfure community of Akko Local Government Area (LGA) in Gombe State, have commended the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) for its prompt intervention in resolving a protracted power outage that had crippled the community.

The appreciation came in the wake of a swift response to a petition filed by the community members against the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC). According to the community, the intervention by the NERC and other stakeholders has led to the installation of a brand-new transformer, replacing the faulty unit that had left the area in prolonged darkness.

In a statement signed by Abdulkadir Aliyu Shehu, on behalf of the community, the residents expressed delight that NERC’s directive also prompted JEDC’s Managing Director to approve the deployment of an additional transformer. He explained that the second transformer provided will help relieve the load on the existing one, ensuring a more stable electricity supply and improving residents’ quality of life.

Shehu further extended gratitude to JEDC’s management for its cooperation, as well as to members of the press for amplifying the community’s plight. He noted that media coverage played a decisive role in ensuring the petition received swift attention.

“This achievement demonstrates the power of collective action, the importance of responsive governance, and the impact of media advocacy,” Shehu stated as he pledged the community’s continued collaboration with NERC, JEDC, and other stakeholders to sustain and improve electricity supply and parts of the state.
