Gombe State Government has released ₦149.2 million as counterpart funding to secure financial shares for 28,284 vulnerable women under its partnership with the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF).

The funding, approved by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, will support a programme covering the state’s 11 local government areas and 13 Local Council Development Areas.

Under the arrangement, the state government will secure 10 shares for each beneficiary, while the Aliko Dangote Foundation will provide an additional 10 shares, bringing each woman’s allocation to 20 shares.

The initiative aims to promote financial inclusion, create wealth, reduce poverty and strengthen the economic independence of vulnerable women across Gombe State.

The Head of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Zouera Yusuf, commended Governor Yahaya for becoming the first governor in Nigeria to participate in the programme and fulfil the required counterpart funding obligation.

Yusuf acknowledged the state government’s commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable groups through policies and programmes focused on women’s empowerment.

She said the partnership would expand economic opportunities for women and their households, while reaffirming the foundation’s readiness to sustain collaboration with the state government to advance poverty reduction and wealth creation.

To ensure transparency, accountability and effective implementation, the state government has inaugurated a multisectoral committee to oversee the programme.

The committee comprises representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

The committee is expected to coordinate the implementation process and ensure that the programme delivers its intended benefits to the 28,284 targeted women across the state.
