The Gombe State Police Command has stepped up security measures across the state ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations to ensure public safety and prevent crime.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, disclosed this during his maiden conference with Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Heads of Departments (HODs), where security arrangements for the festive period were reviewed and strengthened.

According to the Command, in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the meeting focused on effective coordination, intelligence-led policing, increased visibility patrols, and rapid response to emergencies, particularly in areas expected to witness large gatherings. These include places of worship, markets, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public spaces.

CP Chuso charged senior officers to ensure optimal deployment of personnel and logistics across the state, stressing that proactive policing and collaboration among units would be critical to maintaining law and order during the festivities.

The Police Commissioner also urged residents of the state to take personal safety precautions, advising them to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary night movements, and comply with traffic regulations. He cautioned against reckless driving, the carrying of dangerous weapons, and other actions that could compromise public safety during the celebrations.

Residents were further encouraged to promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station and to cooperate fully with security operatives deployed across the state.

CP Chuso reassured the people of Gombe State of the Command’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and crime-free festive season through proactive, intelligence-driven, and community-based policing.
