The Gombe State Police Command has rescued a three-month-old baby from an alleged trafficking attempt and arrested three women suspected to be behind the crime, alongside several other criminals linked to rape, armed robbery, and theft.

The command’s spokesperson DSP Buhari Abdullahi disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the arrests were part of a series of breakthroughs under Commissioner of Police Bello Yahaya.

According to him, the baby was rescued on September 15th after a report by one Karo Garba of Liji Quarters in Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area (LGA). She alleged that 20-year-old Fatima Abdullahi from Damaturu, Yobe State, conspired with one Adama Ibrahim and handed over her infant to another woman identified as Fatima Haruna, who fled with the child. He explained that the Police tracked the suspects to Tumfure Trailer Park in Akko LGA, where the baby was recovered and the three women arrested.

In a separate case, two 14-year-old herders, Danladi Babangida and Samaila Sulaiman, were arrested for allegedly conspiring to rape a 13-year-old girl while she fetched firewood in Pindiga community of Akko LGA. According to him, the case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the command for discreet investigation.

He further stated that the command also recovered a newborn baby abandoned inside a carton by an unidentified woman who had boarded a tricycle in Gombe metropolis. “The baby is now in the care of state social welfare authorities,” Buhari stated.

While urging the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious persons, and support law enforcement efforts, DSP Abdullahi disclosed that the Police has also arrested other suspects include Abdullahi Mohammed of Liji Quarters, accused of recruiting teenagers into a fake vigilante ring used to rob residents. He explained that command recovered vigilante ID cards, stolen phones, ATM cards, and police uniforms from his shop. Additionally, a notorious car thief, Ibrahim Zubairu alias Dan Makka, was nabbed in Bauchi with a stolen Toyota Sienna and a fabricated keys.

He stressed that all suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded. “The Command assured residents of its sustained commitment to protecting lives, property, and particularly the most vulnerable across the state,” Buhari stated.
