The Gombe State Police Command has announced the arrest of suspected bandits and fraudsters, rescue of a kidnapped victim, and recovery of arms, ammunition as well as counterfeit currency, and other dangerous items.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi. He stated that the achievements were recorded during the week under review as part of the Command’s proactive policing strategy and the ongoing crackdown on criminal activities across the state.
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Pindiga Divisional Police Headquarters on January 18, 2026, arrested a suspected bandit, Shehu Hussaini, a male from Mansur Village, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, during a stop-and-search patrol.
Items recovered from the suspect include 13 live cartridges, a cutlass, a knife, and a red Honda motorcycle. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was allegedly on his way to deliver the ammunition to a bandit commander operating in a forest area of Alkaleri LGA.

Buhari added that in a related operation, police successfully rescued Hassan Reuben of Nahuta Village, Tula, Kaltungo LGA if Gombe state, a kidnapped victim. According to the PPRO, the victim, who was abducted on January 20, was rescued unhurt on January 21 following a joint operation involving police operatives from Awak and Tula Divisions, vigilantes, and local hunters at Tule Berbere, near Kunge Village in Kaltungo LGA. Three female suspects believed to be spouses or accomplices of the kidnappers were arrested in the area.
The Command also recorded a breakthrough in combating financial crimes. On January 15, operatives from the Dukku Divisional Headquarters arrested four suspects in possession of 304 pieces of counterfeit 100 United States dollar notes. Investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects found with substances suspected to be mercury, allegedly used in the production of fake currency.
Furthermore, police operatives arrested a suspect, Ibrahim Mohd, in connection with criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft in Bomala Quarters, Akko LGA. A stolen motorcycle valued at N750,000 was recovered from the suspect, who confessed to the crime and implicated an accomplice currently at large.
“All suspects are presently in police custody while investigations continue at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),” DSP Buhari stated.
