Gombe: Police arrest drug dealer, tricycle thief, 4 robbery suspects

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old woman for drug dealing, a 36-year-old man for tricycle theft, and four other young men for armed robbery.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the police confirmed that operatives arrested the 53-year-old Rakiya Ahmed at Barunde Quarters on Monday evening with eight blocks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa. Stating that she is currently in custody while investigations continue.

According to him, earlier the same day, detectives from Gona Division arrested 36-year-old Auwal Suleiman of Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe, after being found with a tricycle that was believed to have been stolen. He explained that preliminary investigation revealed the tricycle, bearing registration number YLA 536WL, had been stolen from Wuro Biriji, By-pass Quarters. The rightful owner has since been identified, while Suleiman remains under investigation pending prosecution.

He added that in a related development, four young men, Ibrahim Saleh, Umar Isah, Hassan Yau, all 18 years old, and a 22-year-old Haruna Isah were arrested for allegedly robbing a resident of Hayin Kwari Misau Quarters on Sunday night. Armed with machetes, the suspects reportedly dispossessed the victim, Bello Safiyanu, of food items, a mobile phone, and N30,000 in cash.

Buhari further disclosed that the Police recovered some stolen items, including six measures of rice and beans. The suspects have confessed and are expected to be charged in court.

He also stated that while commending the officers involved in the operations, the state commissioner of police, Bello Yahaya reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to aid security operations.
