The Gombe State Government has ordered an immediate investigation and emergency relief intervention following a devastating fire that razed a section of the Gombe Timber Market (Kasuwar Katako) along the Railway Station axis, destroying shops, goods and the primary means of livelihood of numerous traders.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who expressed deep concern over the scale of destruction, described the incident as a major economic setback to hardworking residents who depend on the market for daily survival.
According to a statement issued by Ismail Uba Misilli a senior media aide to the governor, the Governor directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), in collaboration with other relevant agencies, to urgently assess the damage, determine the cause of the inferno and provide immediate support to affected traders to cushion the impact of the losses.
He assured victims that the state government stands firmly with them, stressing that necessary measures would be taken to mitigate their losses and prevent a recurrence.

The Governor commended the prompt intervention of the Gombe State Fire Service, the Federal Fire Service, firefighters from Gombe State University, private tanker operators, security agencies and the Nigerian Red Cross Society, whose combined efforts helped contain the fire and avert further damage.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya was also briefed on an accident involving one of the firefighting trucks while responding to the emergency. He expressed sympathy to those affected and prayed for their speedy recovery.
As part of longer-term preventive measures, the Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to establishing a fully equipped, state-of-the-art fire service office to strengthen emergency response capacity and safeguard lives, property and investments across the state. The government has urged affected traders to remain calm as investigations continue and relief measures are rolled out.
