Orders contending appointees to resign
From Abdulrazaq Mungadi, Gombe
The Gombe State Government has disclosed the reasons behind the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council approved by Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
According to the government, the decision is to allow cabinet members to pursue their political ambitions in the upcoming 2027 general elections. They have until April 10 to resign.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after an extraordinary council meeting, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, said the session reviewed the administration’s performance over the past two and a half years of Governor Yahaya’s second term.
“The general overview is that, at least like the proverbial lizard, we were able to give ourselves a pass mark. Not only is it a pass, but with excellent results,” Njodi stated.
He explained that the governor, after assessing the political landscape and its implications for members of the Executive Council, deemed it necessary to dissolve the cabinet.

“This measure provides each member a level playing ground to pursue personal interests, including contesting for elective positions,” Njodi said.
The governor has directed that all commissioners and heads of ministries complete the handover of their responsibilities to Permanent Secretaries no later than Friday, April 10, 2026.
Similarly, all political appointees, aides, and civil servants seeking elective offices in the 2027 elections must resign their current positions by the same date.
Njodi commended the outgoing council members and affected appointees for their dedication, loyalty, and service to the administration’s agenda for good governance, sustainable development, and the welfare of the people of Gombe State.
“The Governor remains grateful for their contributions and wishes them success in their future endeavours,” he said.
The SSG also acknowledged the media for their support in promoting government programmes, urging journalists to continue providing law-abiding and constructive coverage of the administration’s initiatives.
