The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two persons and the abduction of five others following an early morning armed attack in Pindiga town, Akko Local Government Area (LGA).
According to the police, in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the command announced that it had launched intensified tactical and intelligence-led operations to track down the perpetrators and rescue the kidnapped victims.
The police said the incident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, 28 December 2025, after a distress report was received at the Pindiga Police Station. Unidentified armed men reportedly invaded residences along the Pindiga–Kashere Road, shooting Yusuf Mohammed, 31, and his sister, Faiza Mohammed, 28, while abducting a 16-year-old girl, Zainab Mohammed Yusuf, all from the same household.
The assailants subsequently moved to the residence of Alhaji Yayaji Abdullahi, where they abducted his wife and two children: Summai Alhaji Yayaji, 35; Al’amin Alhaji Yayaji, 11; and Fatima Abdullahi, 14. The two gunshot victims were rushed to the Cottage Hospital, Pindiga, where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
A visit to the scene by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, alongside senior officers, led to the recovery of six empty shells of AK-47 ammunition and one live round. The command said hunters and local vigilante groups have been mobilised to complement ongoing operations, while efforts to rescue the abducted victims continue.
Reacting to the incident, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya condemned the killings and abductions, describing the attack as barbaric, cruel, and utterly unacceptable.
The governor said the murder of innocent citizens in their homes, alongside the abduction of women and children, constitutes a heinous crime that deeply offends humanity and challenges the peace and security the state has worked hard to sustain.
He assured that the incident would not go unchecked, disclosing that the Nigeria Police and other security agencies have commenced intensive investigations into the killings and abductions. The Governor, in a statement issued by his senior media aide, Ismail Uba Misilli, directed that all necessary resources be deployed to apprehend the perpetrators, rescue the abducted victims unharmed, and bring all those involved to justice.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Governor warned that Gombe State would not serve as a safe haven for criminals and their collaborators, stressing that security operations would be further intensified and intelligence gathering strengthened.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security agencies, while extending condolences to the families of the deceased and the Pindiga Emirate. Meanwhile, the police urged members of the public to remain calm and support security agencies with credible information that may aid the investigation.
