Tanzania head coach Manuel Gomand says Taifa Stars must be tactically disciplined and put in more than 100 percent to be able to stop Super Eagles firepower, led by Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Paul Onuwachu and others.
Both Tanzania and Nigeria clash in today’s AFCON Group C opening game at the Fez Stadium, Fes.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference, the Argentine tactician admitted that facing Nigeria will be a tough test, stressing the need for concentration, discipline and collective effort from his players.
“We need to be very careful, work in a perfect situation and I’m sure my players will put in extra effort to contain the threat from Nigeria,” Gomandi said.
“We need to be realistic. When you see the qualities in the Nigerian team, you need to put in more than 100 percent effort to try to neutralise them,” he added.
Despite the respect shown to the Super Eagles, Gomandi made it clear that Tanzania will not abandon their own philosophy, noting that tactical discipline will be key.
“Our mentality is to try to play and attack as well.
“We need to be tactically disciplined and there should not be any room for mistakes, because if you don’t avoid such mistakes, the qualities in the Nigerian team can punish you,” he concluded
