Global warming: NGO plants 500 trees at Kebbi school

A Kebbi State non-governmental organisation (NGO), Hope Alive Initiative For Special Needs And Vulnerable Persons, has planted about 500 economic trees at the School of Special Needs, Birnin Kebbi. The NGO stated that the actions was to protect the School of Special Needs and the students against environmental disaster especially erosion and global warming.

The NGO’s Chairman, Board Of Trustees, (BOT) Mallam Haliru U. Usman, while speaking at the short ceremony held at the school premises, explained that they have done similar thing two years ago.

According to him, “the purpose of planting trees in this school is to prevent the school structures from collapse as a result of wind and erosion. We have been doing this for the past two years and today, another 500 trees will be planted and we are targeting 1,000 trees by the grace of God”.

In his short remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Kebbi State, Saad Musa Sakaba, who commended those behind the tree planting, said the planting of economic trees would benefit the entire human race.

He said: “If we inculcate the habit of planting trees, it will prevent erosion, flooding which is frequent now in our states as a result of global warming. I want to encourage other organisations to emulate this initiative so that our environment could be properly protected”.

A traditional ruler, Ubadoma Gwandu, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad represented by Magaji Bonga, Alhaji Idris Usman, appealed to the state government and other eminent  people in the society to assist the Hope Alive Initiative For Special Needs And Vulnerable Persons to be able to discharge their social responsibilities in the society.
