A Northern Christian group has urged President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to appoint a Northern Christian as Director-General of the president’s 2027 re-election campaign.
The group said the move would strengthen the ruling party’s chances at the polls and reinforce national unity.
The appeal was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Secretary of the Northern Christian Progressive Group, Rev. Hayap Musa Danladi.
Danladi said the time had come for Northern Christians to demonstrate their political relevance and loyalty ahead of the 2027 general election, arguing that appointing one of their own to lead the presidential campaign would foster inclusion and counter allegations of religious bias against the administration.
He recalled that former Plateau State Governor Solomon Lalong served as Director-General of Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign and described his leadership as instrumental to the president’s electoral victory.

According to him, giving the position to another Northern Christian would deepen political acceptance, mutual respect, and national cohesion while dispelling what he described as misconceptions being spread by political opponents.
He said Northern Christian politicians were prepared to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election in recognition of what he described as the administration’s achievements and reforms.
Danladi also urged Nigerians to reject religious and ethnic divisions and focus on national development, insisting that Christians remained committed to peaceful coexistence and nation-building.
Also speaking, the leader of the Northern Christian Youth, Zakaria Bitrus Gwasshi, commended Tinubu’s administration for what he described as fairness, inclusiveness, and efforts to tackle insecurity and promote economic development.
Gwasshi claimed the administration had made progress in reducing religious tensions in parts of Bauchi, Kaduna, Plateau, and Benue states through what he described as an impartial approach to governance.
