The Ghana Police Service said it has arrested Sibamay Zakaria, a man caught on video slapping a pastor accused of blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed.
In a statement released on Thursday, the service said the suspect is in custody and assisting with investigations.
The statement reads, “The Ghana Police Service has arrested suspect Sibamay Zakaria who was captured in a viral video assaulting a suspect.
“The suspect is in custody assisting the investigation and will be put before the court.
“Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and all persons found culpable will be taken through the necessary disciplinary processes.”
A video circulating on social media shows a man, later identified as Pastor Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, in handcuffs.
The suspect could be seen strolling behind the pastor before giving him a slap.
He then lingers behind the pastor before leaving the scene.
In an initial statement, the Ghana Police Service condemned the assault and promised to identify and arrest the suspect seen in the video.
The service also vowed to prosecute the suspect when caught.
Earlier on Wednesday, Ghana Police Service said its Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team arrested the pastor, also known as Apostle Daniel JY Adjei, after he was caught on video making derogatory remarks about Prophet Mohammed.
The service also arrested a 35-year-old Imam, Masud Abdullah, over a video in which he advocated violence against people who insult or speak ill of Prophet Mohammad.
