The Nasrul-lahi-li Fathi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT), has called on the Federal Government to be ready to penalise palliative hoarders. The Chief Imam of NASFAT in Kaduna, Muhammad Maaruf Raji, who made the call shortly after he inaugurated the branch’s executive members in Kaduna, warned that both the federal and state governments must guard against the repeat of COVID-19 palliative hoarding experience.
“I want to call on the government at all levels to monitor the palliatives that are to be distributed for the needy very well and anyone found hoarding it should be brought to book.
“Specifically, the federal government should do all necessary things to ensure those deserving the palliatives get it”, he said.
Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated officers, the Chairman of NASFAT Kaduna Branch, Alhaji Hakeem Adeniji, urged the government to increase the amount of money it planned to give to the poor and vulnerable households, and the number of loan beneficiaries, as well as provide more opportunities to poor and vulnerable Nigerians in the face of the current economic realities.
Adeniji noted that the subsidy removal has a devastating effect on low-income earners, which is why, “we want government to subsidise transport system, increase production of food and other amenities to cushion the effect of this untold hunger.
“Loan of as much as N50, 000 should be given to petty traders to support their business.” Adeniji however stated that NASFAT under his leadership is committed to creating more opportunities for its members.
