The German Embassy in Nigeria has cautioned Nigerians against relying on unverified information from individuals who present themselves as visa agents when seeking to apply for German visas.
The embassy issued the warning in a post on its official X account on Wednesday, advising prospective applicants to obtain accurate information directly from the mission’s official channels.
“Beware of misinformation. Save yourself the hassle & just ask us directly,” the embassy said.
The diplomatic mission also invited Nigerians to share claims they had received from so-called visa agents so they could be addressed publicly in subsequent posts.
“Tell us some of the things you’ve heard from ‘visa agents’ in the comments, and we’ll answer in upcoming posts,” it stated.
The German Embassy specifically clarified that it has no partnerships with visa agents.

“We do not work with any ‘visa Agents’!” the mission stated.
It further said applicants could access relevant visa information free of charge through its official website, making it unnecessary to depend on third parties for basic application guidance.
The warning comes amid the circulation of various claims about German visa requirements and application procedures, some of which may be inaccurate or deliberately misleading.
The embassy urged Nigerians to verify information through official sources before taking any action, particularly where money or personal documents are involved.
Applicants were also encouraged to exercise caution to avoid unnecessary expenses, confusion or falling victim to fraudulent visa schemes.
