They say spectacles make events, and the venue defines them. Indeed, a spectacle unfolded on Saturday May 16 when elder statesman and billionaire magnate, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma hosted his beloved daughter, Saraya Danjuma’s traditional wedding to Bawa Salaka. The result was an extravaganza that dominated social media feeds, and captivated celebrity watchers and fashion connoisseurs.
The high-profile traditional wedding drew Nigeria’s political, military, and business elite to the exclusive waterfront estate. Indeed, it was an exclusive gathering of the elite influencers, socialites, and political leaders, including the Vice President Kashim Shettima and Danjuma’s close associates like Lebanese-Nigerian billionaire Gilbert Chagoury.
Danjuma is not merely a retired top general, he is a business titan whose ventures span the frontiers of energy, shipping, hospitality, and manufacturing. He is also a quintessential father with silky hands of affection to his loved ones and generosity to his children. Danjuma never spared no expenses throwing lavish wedding ceremonies for his children. He has done so in the past and Saraya’s was no exception. Her marriage has been one of the most talked-about social events in recent weeks.
One of the high profile guests, Archbishop Emmanuel Musa Jatau, the presiding bishop of Faith-hill Prophetic Assembly Abuja, described the gathering as a reflection of unity across Nigeria’s diverse leadership class. “This is more than a wedding. It is a convergence of respect, legacy, and hope for the next generation,” he said.
There was a blend of traditional decorum and modern sophistication that marked the proceedings. It started with the traditional wedding ceremony inside the expansive living room of the retired army General. It was followed by the wedding solemnisation which took place amid tight security and elaborate décor with the Banana Island’s luxury backdrop adding to the grandeur. And then the main gig: a reception inside a makeshift marquee illuminated with cinematic lighting that gave the guest immersive tech-driven experiences. At the heart of this opulent celebration stands Senator Daisy Danjuma, the General’s beloved better half and mother of the bride.
