Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has announced Prof. Garba Ibrahim Sheka as the Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).

The Governor, who made the announcement at the Government House in Kano, on Monday, also named Alhaji Abdallah Abba and Alhaji Dahiru Abbas Kachako as Commissioners in the Commission.

Ganduje described the appointees as men of integrity, saying they had been apolitical in their disposition and were therefore capable of discharging their responsibilities.

He remarked that he expected them to provide a level playing field to all political parties that will participate in the Local Government elections in the state.

The Governor urged them to discharge their duties with high sense of responsibility, while reminding them of his administration’s zero tolerance policy to act of corruption.

Ganduje charged them to commence work with immediate effect, tasking them to draft a timetable for the conduct of the Local Government elections in the state as well as to work out other needed logistics for the exercise.

It could be recalled that about three weeks ago, the Kano State House of Assembly had screened and approved the appointment of Prof. Sheka as the Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission.
