President-General Worldwide of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Rafiu Oladipo, has described the death of former Nigeria Football Association boss, Ibrahim Galadima, as a huge loss, noting that it has created “a big vacuum” in Nigerian football.
Galadima, who held the traditional title of Galadiman Fagge, died on Saturday in Kano at the age of 74 and was buried on Sunday in line with Islamic rites.
In a condolence message he personally signed, Oladipo said the late administrator was a close ally during his time as helmsman of Nigerian football, emphasizing that his wise counsel and fatherly guidance would be sorely missed.
“His death has created a big vacuum because his wise counseling and fatherly advice will be highly missed. I’m saddened by the death of Alhaji Galadima, who was my very good friend and contributed immensely to the development of the country’s football,” Oladipo stated.
He, however, expressed gratitude that the former football administrator lived a fulfilled life, even as he extended condolences to his family, the people of Kano State, and the entire football community.
Oladipo also prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and for strength for those he left behind.
Galadima served as President of the Nigeria Football Association, now the Nigeria Football Federation, from 2002 to 2006. His career in sports administration also saw him serve as Chairman of the Kano State Football Association between 1977 and 1979, and as Executive Chairman of the Kano State Sports Council from 1981 to 1983.
He was also First Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, a member of the Presidential Monitoring Committee for Stadia Development for the FIFA World Youth Championship, and Commissioner for Social Welfare, Youth and Sports in Kano State.
