Ahmet Çakar has come to the defence of Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen following his underwhelming performance in their 1-4 defeat to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Osimhen, who recently returned from an injury layoff, started the encounter at Rams Park and played the full 90 minutes.
However, the Nigerian international struggled to make an impact, frequently finding himself caught offside against Barcelona’s high defensive line.
His disappointing display has drawn criticism from fans and pundits, with questions raised about his performance.
Speaking on the Libero TV YouTube channel, Çakar backed the Super Eagles striker, attributing his struggles to his fitness level and the lack of service from his teammates.
“Osimhen, you know, he could play for any team in the world, he’d be the top scorer in the Premier League,” Çakar said via Habersarikirmizi.
“I didn’t see anything like that in this match. I admit, he’s just recovered from injury, but what kind of performance did the team give him that he should play like that?”
Before his injury, the Nigerian international enjoyed a brilliant start to the campaign, scoring six goals and providing two assists in four league appearances.
He maintained his impressive form following his return from injury, registering an assist to help Galatasaray secure a 3-1 victory over Kasimpasa.
