The Vice-Chancellor, of the Federal University of Transportation Daura, (FUTD) Katsina State Prof. Umar Adamu Katsayal, has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to increase its commitment towards harnessing economic value in the Marine and Blue Economy.

He said this can be achieved through increased proper education of the Nigerian and African young generations for economic development.

Professor Umaru Adamu Katsayal, who made the call in Abuja during a book launch on the Marine and Blue Economy, stated that all efforts should be made to ensure that the policy of the present administration towards the sector is achieved, as this would facilitate economic diversification.

“The book we are launching today means a lot, and it creates a lot of opportunities for our new generation and indeed for the general public to have the knowledge of the potential of our waters. And not only that, it extends the knowledge of the value of our inland waterways. Even part of the oil we use comes from the seashore. The seafood we catch is crucial to our daily lives and has medicinal benefits for our health, so you can see that there is a whole gamut of value we should enjoy if we harness its potential beyond water transportation.

In ensuring this is well propagated, he highlighted that proper education of the population remains a viable tool to drive home the message. He said schools like the Federal Transport University Daura, which has been established to build human capacity through the study of transport and professionalization.

” What I am saying is that the book is prepared to build the future of the students through the benefits of the maritime sub-sector. Because what the book contains by its nature is to develop the intellectual capacity of the students. To lecturers, it would help them carry out research to be able to transfer knowledge to the students.
The book titled ‘Blue Economy, Gateway To Sustainable Future’, written by Dr. Chika Chukwudi, Assistant Director in NIMASA, has been approved by the maritime agency as well as other academic agencies as a study material for tertiary institutions, colleges, and primary schools categorically.
