The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Transportation, Daura (FUTD), Hon. Wahab Akanni Owokoniran, has inspected ongoing projects at the university, directing contractors and consultants to ensure quality delivery and strict compliance with contractual specifications.
In a statement issued by the Chief Information and Communication Officer of the institution, Umar Usman, Owokoniran said the exercise was part of efforts by the Governing Council to monitor the implementation of projects secured for the institution and ensure that public resources committed to the development of the university were judiciously utilised.
The projects inspected include the Senate Building, Centre for Railway Signal and Communication, student hostel accommodation, workshops, School of General Studies, classroom blocks and faculty buildings.
Also inspected was the renovated Great Green Wall Building, which is being converted into the Centre of Transpo-Entrepreneurship.
Speaking before the inspection, Owokoniran stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the Governing Council and the university management, saying teamwork remained critical to the institution’s sustainable growth.
He said his visit was also aimed at obtaining first-hand information about the university’s needs and challenges.
“Before embarking on the inspection, I decided to first interact with the University Management, and this interaction is the second we are having in 2026.
“I want to assure you that I will, from time to time, interact with you with the aim of getting first-hand information on the needs of the university.
“I urge you to continue to support the Governing Council in performing its mandates, and I want you to feel free with me in doing so,” he said.
Owokoniran said the Governing Council had secured several projects to address the university’s growing infrastructure requirements, adding that the quality of the facilities was particularly important because FUTD was a newly established institution expected to serve generations of students.
“This inspection is to see for ourselves the development made so far on the execution of these projects, as well as ensure quality, especially being a newly established university with critical needs for utilisation by many generations to come,” he said.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Hon. Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal, mni, welcomed the Pro-Chancellor and expressed appreciation for his continued engagement with the institution.
Katsayal described the visit as evidence of the Governing Council’s commitment to the development of the university, noting that it was the second formal interaction between the Pro-Chancellor and the university management in 2026.
“This, no doubt, shows the importance the Chairman attaches to the university and its development.
“It is our hope that the same tempo will be sustained by Hon. Owokoniran,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
The inspection team, comprising the Pro-Chancellor, members of the Governing Council and senior management staff, was led round the project sites by the Director of Physical Planning and Municipal Services, Arch. Usman Mukhtar Wali.
Wali provided explanations on the scope and progress of the various projects, while the Pro-Chancellor made observations and raised issues concerning workmanship, quality control and the need for strict adherence to approved specifications.
Owokoniran also interacted with the contractors and consultants handling the projects, seeking updates on their progress and emphasising the need for compliance with the terms and conditions of their contracts.
The inspection is expected to further strengthen monitoring of the projects as the university continues to expand its infrastructure and capacity to provide specialised education and training in transportation-related disciplines.
