Alvaro Arbeloa has revealed why Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey is a perfect fit for his playing style, while also hinting that the Super Eagles star could become one of the leaders in the dressing room.
The former Liverpool manager made the revelation following Bassey’s impressive display in Fulham’s 1-0 victory over Stuttgart at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon.

The Nigerian international delivered a solid defensive display to help the Premier League club keep a clean sheet in their final pre-season match.
Speaking after the match, Arbeloa praised Bassey’s qualities and explained why the defender is suited to his tactical approach.

“Calvin is a proper and top player for my style of game because we need to defend so high and leave a lot of space behind. He has everything,” Arbeloa told Fulham media.
The former Real Madrid defender also praised Bassey’s attitude and work ethic, suggesting that the Nigerian could take on a leadership role within the squad.
“He is a funny guy but when we have to work he is always the first one. I love Calvin and he can be our leader,” he concluded.
Bassey has been an influential figure for Fulham since joining the club in the summer of 2023 following an underwhelming spell in the Eredivisie.
The former Leicester City defender has since rediscovered his best form in the Premier League, scoring four goals and providing one assist in 101 appearances across all competitions.
