To address the challenges plaguing the oil and gas industry, Mr. Benneth Korie, the National President of the Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria (NOGASA), has called on the federal government to ensure timely payments to contractors and prioritize emergency repairs.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Korie also expressed concerns regarding the issue of multiple and excessive taxation imposed by various levels of government, urging for reforms to foster a more equitable business environment.
He pointed out that poor road conditions continue to pose significant obstacles for transporting petroleum products nationwide, further driving up costs.
He said: “Improving our transportation network is also essential. Expanding and revamping railways, especially for bulk cargo, will enhance logistics. Adequate attention must be given to road networks, with prompt payments to contractors and prioritization of emergency repairs.

“Roads are very important. You will agree with me that roads contribute up to 45 percent to the delay in the distribution of petroleum products in this country. Why I say 45 percent of the delay is due to logistical challenges. For instance, moving petroleum from Lagos to maybe Maiduguri, from Maiduguri to another location, typically will take time, but the main problem is the road infrastructure.
“It is essential for the government to honour their commitments to road construction projects and ensure proper funding. Public statements and social media announcements are not sufficient. Funds must be allocated directly to road projects, and the public should be informed about the progress and spending.
“When funds are allocated but roadwork is not progressing, it creates frustration. There should be transparency and accountability in how these funds are used. The President is working on investment and contracts, but visible results are lacking. More effort is needed in this area.”
