Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has conducted an extensive inspection of the 50.15-kilometre Port Harcourt Ring Road, reiterating his administration’s commitment to completing the landmark project by October 2026.
Accompanied by Mr. Rimon Marisho, Deputy Regional Manager, South-South and South-East, of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, the governor toured key sections of the project, spanning six local government areas, starting from the Eleme axis at the Refinery Junction, through Oyigbo and Obio-Akpor, and concluding at the river-crossing bridge connecting the Agip/RSU axis to Mgbuodohia community.
Addressing journalists at the bridge site, Governor Fubara said the inspection was aimed at evaluating the progress as the project nears the end of its initial 36-month timeline. He noted that significant work had been completed and that the contractors assured timely delivery within the revised schedule.
“The project was initially planned to last for about 36 months, and we are now approaching that period. It became necessary for us to physically assess the level of progress made so far. From what you can observe, a lot has been achieved. The contractors have continued to assure us that they will deliver the project by October. From my assessment, what they require is sustained funding, and from our end, the necessary push,” he said.
He added that Julius Berger Nigeria PLC confirmed that with continued financial and institutional support, the Ring Road project would be completed on schedule.

Describing the project as a top priority of his administration, he highlighted its role in improving transportation infrastructure, reducing traffic congestion, and addressing urban expansion challenges across the state.
“I strongly believe that the promise we made to our people, to deliver this project by October, will be fulfilled, God willing. This project is particularly important because of the vision behind it. My predecessor, the Honourable Minister who conceived it, had a far-reaching vision, believing that its completion within record time would bring immense satisfaction to the people. Despite the challenges, it remains my desire and commitment to ensure that this vision is realised,” he said.
The project, which commenced in July 2023, spans Port Harcourt, Obio-Akpor, Ikwerre, Etche, Eleme and Ogu-Bolo local government areas. It features the construction of six flyovers and a river-crossing bridge, and is designed to decongest traffic while stimulating economic growth, transforming the urban layout of Port Harcourt and its environs.
The Governor’s inspection underscores the state government’s hands-on approach to ensuring quality, timely delivery, and sustainable infrastructure development in Rivers State.
