Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for the commitment in protecting critical national assets and territorial integrity.

The governor gave the commendation at the combined West African Social Activities (WASA) organized by the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, in Port Harcourt at the weekend.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Benibo Anabraba, the governor Rivers appreciated the military, particularly Army and other security agencies for ensuring the security of the country and its people.

He expressed: “We have seen that the Army is indeed a family and this WASA underscores the fact that outside the uniform, we are all a family at first instance, both biologically and occupationally.

“For us as a government in Rivers State, we want to appreciate the Army and the security agencies for all they have been doing in keeping the peace and protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria, including the national assets that are within the Rivers State territory.”

The governor assured partnership with the military to guarantee unity, peace and order, stressing that the Rivers government would continue with the provision of equipment and logistics to security agencies so that they would have seamless operations in the state.

Fubara promised: “We will continue as a government to partner with the military to ensure that there is peace and order, just as we have done earlier before now, in celebrating those who have sacrificed and even those who are still serving the nation as members of the military formations.

“As a government, we will continue to support you with equipment, logistics, transportation and all that we can to ensure that your operations in Rivers State are indeed top-notch.

“Let me commend everyone here for your peaceful disposition, even from various and different ethnic nationalities and cultures who have come together to ensure that this occasion is top-notch.

“Please accept the assurances of the government of Rivers State, and God bless you all as we meet again for the next edition of WASSA.”

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, said the event gave them the opportunity to celebrate the end of an operational year, which started from January 2025 to the end of December.

According to him, the social activities gave them an opportunity to socialize, “to interact with our members of our families in a relaxed atmosphere, while we invite our friends and acquaintances to join us.

“As we mark the end of the year, we recognize the progress we have made and the challenges we overcame during the year. ”

The GOC further explained: “Our collective effort in fostering peace, security, and development have laid the foundation for a brighter future. Let this season remind us of our shared responsibility to build a region where stability, opportunity, and harmony thrive for each and every one of us.”
