The Sun Nigeria

From Lagos roots to nollywood’s big stage – Lolade Okusanya

Lolade Okusanya’s journey began in Berger, Lagos, where she was born and raised. Growing up in a modest family of three, her early years were marked by discipline, exposure to community life, and the curiosity that fueled her desire for creativity.

She attended Glorious Center School in Berger before proceeding to Step Up Comprehensive High School in
Alagbado, Lagos. Her higher education journey led her outside Nigeria to Houdegbe North American University, Cotonou, before continuing her studies at the National Open University, where she is currently enrolled.

Her acting career reflects a blend of passion and persistence. Beyond acting, Lolade ventured into entrepreneurship by setting up beauty stores, ensuring she balanced both creative and business pursuits. Her ability to move seamlessly between these two demanding fields demonstrates resilience and ambition.

Over time, she has gained recognition as an executive producer, financing projects such as Gidi Life, Love Lives Here, and Heart Repairs. These projects, though challenging to bring to life, underline her determination to create stories that connect with audiences. She admits that filmmaking costs, often starting from 10 million naira, remain a significant challenge.

Yet, she continues to push through, maintaining her focus on long-term goals.
Looking ahead, Lolade aspires to grow into one of Nollywood’s leading producers and
actresses. She hopes to take her craft beyond Nigeria’s borders, creating films that resonate both locally and internationally. Her story reflects not just personal ambition but also the evolving
opportunities and challenges within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
