Former Soludo ally takes charge of Peter Obi’s NDC campaign in Anambra

Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed former House of Representatives member Ifeanyi Ibezi to coordinate Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential campaign in Anambra State.

Ibezi, a former ally of Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, recently joined the NDC after previously supporting the governor’s All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

In a statement made available to journalists, Ibezi said his team would begin a grassroots mobilisation campaign across the state to build support for Obi and other NDC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said Anambra, as Obi’s home state, had a responsibility to deliver a strong electoral mandate for the presidential candidate.

“Anambra occupies a peculiar place in this campaign. As the home state of our presidential candidate, His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi, the expectations are understandably high, and we must rise to meet them,” Ibezi said.

“Our responsibility goes beyond securing victory; we must work to ensure that Anambra delivers a resounding mandate, reflected in the strength and number of valid votes cast for Mr Peter Obi.”

The former lawmaker said the campaign would target undecided voters and residents who had become disillusioned with the political system or lost confidence in the electoral process.

“We must reach those who are undecided, those who feel left behind, those who have grown weary of the system, and those who have withdrawn from the electoral process because they no longer believe their votes can make a difference,” he said.

“We must listen to them, earn their confidence, and remind them that the future of our country is too important to be surrendered to apathy.”

Ibezi said his team planned to take the campaign to all 21 local government areas, 326 wards and 5,720 polling units in Anambra State.

The mobilisation drive would also cover markets, churches, town union meetings and households, according to the statement.

“Our objective is clear: to mobilise the people, secure their participation, and translate their aspirations into votes at the polls,” he said.

He added that the campaign would work to ensure that every valid vote counted and that the electoral process reflected the will of the people.
