A former Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Imo State Chapter, Engr. Emeka Celestine Ugoanyanwu has lost his dear mother, Ezinne Philomena Uloakonwa Ugoanyanwu (née Akuba) to the cold hands of death.
The late matriarch of the Ugoanyanwu’s family of Umuezeali, Awo-Omamma in Oru East Local Government Area, Imo State, joined the saints at the age of 93.
In a statement released by the family, signed by one of her sons, Engr. Emeka Ugoanyanwu, his mom will be committed to the mother earth on May 7, 2026.
The funeral arrangement indicate that a wake-keep will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the family compound in Umuezeali, Awo-Omamma.
A requiem mass is scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ubogwu Awo-Omamma, beginning at 10:00 a.m., after which interment will take place at her husband’s compound in Umuezeali.
According to the family and sympathizers, mama’s death was described as a profound loss, received with deep grief but total submission to the will of God.
Late Ezinne Ugoanyanwu was widely known as a devout Catholic, a woman of unwavering faith, and a compassionate mother whose life touched many. She was also recognized as an exceptional community leader and mobilizer, admired for her dedication to service and her positive influence on all who encountered her.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous relatives and well-wishers.
The family prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul, describing her as a loving mother and a guiding light whose legacy will endure for generations.
Engr. Emeka Celestine Ugoanyanwu was the General Manager, Imo State Water Development Agency, IWADA. He was later appointed the MD/CEO, Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation, ISWSC.
