The former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, has lost his father, Mallam Jidayi Filibus Asarya Wabba.

According to a statement from NLC on Monday, Mallam Wabba, who was the District Head of Sabongari-Puba in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, died at the age of 90.

A devout Christian, the late traditional ruler served the Nigerian Army for 35 years before retiring to private life, where he remained active in community leadership and service.

He is survived by his wife, 11 children and 26 grandchildren, including Ayuba Wabba, the immediate past President of the NLC and former leader of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).

Burial arrangements announced by the family indicate that he will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at his hometown of Sabongari-Puba, Askira/Uba LGA of Borno State, by 10:00am.
