Forgery: Court remands fake presidential agency DG at Kuje

The Federal High Court, Abuja, has remanded Adeniyi Adeyemi, who allegedly paraded himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), at the Kuje Correctional Centre over alleged forgery and impersonation.

Justice Muhammed Umar ordered his remand after Adeyemi pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge filed against him by the Federal Government.

The court adjourned hearing of his bail application until October 12, 2026.

Adeyemi was arraigned by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), Oyedipo Rotimi, who appeared for the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), whose office has taken over the prosecution.

Before the defendant took his plea, Rotimi informed the court that the AGF’s office would review the case file.

Counsel to Adeyemi, Genesis Francis, told the court that a bail application dated January 12, 2026, had been filed and served on the prosecution, which had also filed a response.

He sought to move the application, but the court could not hear it due to its congested cause list.

The DPPF assured the court that Adeyemi would receive adequate medical attention while in custody, including unhindered access to his doctor.

The prosecution alleged that Adeyemi forged a presidential appointment letter purportedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

He was also accused of forging State House letterheads and documents seeking land allocations and office accommodation across the 36 states of the federation.

According to the prosecution, an investigation ordered by the Presidency and conducted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) found that the council allegedly headed by Adeyemi had no legal backing.

The investigation also allegedly revealed that the outfit had obtained operational instruments and a budgetary allocation before the alleged fraud was uncovered.

Adeyemi, 38, whose address was given as the second floor of the Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja, was charged alongside two other persons identified simply as Femi and Anu, who are said to be at large.

The eight-count charge alleged that the defendants, on or about March 8, 2024, conspired to commit forgery and forged an appointment letter purportedly issued by President Tinubu and signed by Gbajabiamila.

They were also accused of forging presidential letterheaded papers and a request for collaboration with a ministry on land requisition and office accommodation across the 36 states, purportedly emanating from the State House.

Adeyemi was further accused of falsely impersonating the Director-General of the PFIPC between 2024 and 2025.

Other counts alleged the forging of requests for office accommodation and approval of staff account status, as well as a conveyance approval relating to the take-off of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council/Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, all purportedly issued by the State House.

The forgery and conspiracy charges were brought under Section 1(2)(c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, while the impersonation charge was filed under Section 179 of the Penal Code.
