From TONY JOHN, Port Harcourt
The Founder and General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM) Worldwide, Chibuzor Chinyere, has announced the suspension of overseas scholarship as a result of rising foreign exchange.
Chinyere disclosed this in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday, saying OPM would continue with its scholarship scheme in Benin Republic till the graduation of the current students.
The cleric, who is widely known for his humanitarian works, said he was not comfortable taking the decision, but assured to continue with the overseas scholarship once the foreign exchange rate improves.
He said Nigeria is in dire need of God’s intervention for the growth of the economy, expressing concerns why the value of Naira is still dwindling.
Chinyere stated: “All overseas scholarship is hereby suspended.
We shall continue to pay the school fees, accommodation and the OPM free restaurant in Benin Republic till graduation.
“But, we would not be adding anymore new students for now until CFA exchange ( Cotonou money ) to Naira improves.
“I still cannot understand how Cotonou CFA will be higher than our own Naira. We need to pray for God’s intervention.”
The OPM General Overseer added that he Scholarship Scheme for students studying in Nigerian universities will run uninterrupted and urged members of the public not to lose faith in God’s unlimited power to positively change the nation’s economy.
He added: “But, only Nigerian university scholarship will continue for now until Dollar and CFA improve.
“I am seriously sorry for the inconvenience. We all need to pray for Nigeria for God to make our Naira strong, so that overseas scholarship can start again. There is nothing too hard for God to do if only we put our trust in Him.”
It would be noted that no fewer than 4,000 Nigerian undergraduates are on OPM scholarship studying in Turkey, Poland, London, United States of America, Cyprus and Benin Republic. At ESN University, Benin Republic alone, Chinyere has over 600 students on scholarship.
