The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has shared an update on the  Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft and 11 soldiers currently being detained in Burkina Faso.

The update was given on Sunday by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, who said talks were ongoing with Burkina Faso’s authorities to resolve the issue.

Ebienfa added that neither the NAF aircraft nor the 11 detained soldiers had been released.

“We are engaging them, but they are yet to be released,” he stated.

Speaking further, Ebienfa disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken over the discussions to ensure the safe release of both the aircraft and the Nigerian military personnel.

Tensions between the two countries continue to mount after the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) alleged that a NAF plane entered Burkina Faso’s airspace without clearance.

According to NAF, the aircraft made a precautionary landing in Bobo Dioulasso, one of Burkina Faso’s cities, due to a technical problem.
