The Forum of Governing Council Members in Nigeria Tertiary Institutions (FOGOCOM) has renewed its commitment to supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ideals of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while intensifying nationwide mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 General Election.
This renewed commitment was reaffirmed during a strategic engagement and nationwide briefing convened by the Forum’s leadership, where members across the country reviewed ongoing activities, assessed progress within the education sector, and outlined strategies for deeper grassroots engagement and stakeholder participation in support of national development and institutional transformation.
Speaking during the engagement, the National Chairman of FOGOCOM, Chief (Dr.) Akin-Thomas Babajide, commended members for their steadfast loyalty, dedication, and contributions toward advancing good governance, educational development, and nation-building. He noted that the achievements recorded under President Tinubu’s administration have provided a strong foundation for sustainable economic growth, educational reforms, infrastructure development, and improved governance across the country.
According to him, FOGOCOM remains a strategic platform that brings together experienced leaders, policymakers, governing council members, and professionals committed to strengthening Nigeria’s tertiary education system and supporting initiatives that promote national progress.
The National Chairman called on members to continue serving as ambassadors of positive change within their communities, institutions, and professional networks by promoting the achievements of the APC-led administration and encouraging greater citizen participation in governance.
A major highlight of the briefing was the forthcoming FOGOCOM–TSG National Conference, scheduled for September 29, 2026, at the NAF Conference Center, Abuja. The conference is expected to attract distinguished stakeholders from government, academia, industry, development agencies, and the private sector to deliberate on critical issues affecting tertiary education, governance, leadership development, institutional effectiveness, and sustainable national growth.
FOGOCOM expressed profound appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Education for his continued support, encouragement, and commitment to policies and programmes aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s education sector. The Forum acknowledged the Ministry’s efforts in advancing educational reforms and fostering stronger collaboration among stakeholders in tertiary institutions nationwide.
As preparations for the conference enter a crucial stage, the Forum announced that all committees have intensified their activities to ensure the successful hosting of what is expected to be one of the most significant gatherings of governing council members and education stakeholders in Nigeria.
In furtherance of this objective, a strategic physical meeting involving the Steering Committee and Finance Committee has been scheduled for Monday, September 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM, in Abuja. Committee Chairmen have been directed to attend personally or nominate representatives where necessary, as critical decisions relating to conference logistics, funding, partnerships, and programme coordination will be considered.
Members unanimously pledged their support for the successful hosting of the conference and resolved to mobilise resources, networks, and strategic partnerships to ensure a memorable and impactful event capable of influencing national discourse and contributing meaningfully to educational and socio-economic development.
The Forum further noted that the conference presents a unique opportunity to consolidate support for the APC and strengthen momentum toward the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. Members reaffirmed their commitment to expanding grassroots mobilisation, promoting political awareness, and communicating the achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda across communities nationwide.
FOGOCOM also reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, discipline, and professionalism in all its activities. Members were encouraged to uphold the highest ethical standards while working collectively to advance the objectives of the Forum and support initiatives that foster national unity, educational excellence, and sustainable development.
Political stakeholders and observers have described the growing mobilisation efforts of FOGOCOM as a significant demonstration of confidence in the APC-led administration and a reflection of the increasing support being received from professionals, education leaders, and institutional stakeholders across the country.
The briefing concluded with a renewed pledge by members to remain united, focused, and dedicated to the success of the forthcoming FOGOCOM–TSG National Conference, the continued advancement of Nigeria’s tertiary education sector, and the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 as part of broader efforts to sustain national development and deepen the gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
