FoCouture recently unveiled its 2023 Summer Collection, and it turned out to be a modest attempt at creating styles and designs that appeal to women, especially those who prefer to match simplicity with elegance while letting off steam during nighttime.
The launch, a well-organised private exhibition, gave an insight into what inspired each design, and showcased collaboration with other fashion designers and performing artists. For fashion professionals and critics who graced the occasion, the crowning moment was when the founder of the brand, Oluwafunmilayo Afolake Okedairo stood and effectively expressed her ideas for the collection within the confines of the word ‘couture’.
Unlike many fashion brands and designers who churn out numerous designs within a collection for variety, Okedairo focused on producing a limited edition of exquisite 2-piece designs that revealed great attention to detail, and could be easily mass produced to meet market demands.
In her opening remarks, she said: “FoCouture is all about exquisite clothing and servicing more people in a short period. A lot of people mistake cut and sew for couture, but couture is a very expensive process, which very limited people can afford. So, the idea is to create limited designs and produce a decent number to match demand rather than make lots of designs that will affect quality, in the name of having a brand, and which would amount to a waste of fine ideas. For the 2023 Summer Collection, we have chosen to make designs that accommodate comfort, luxury and elegance, and fit into our business model of increasing the value of the brand over time.”
Upon reveal, the idea Oluwafunmilayo Okedairo was trying to impress on the guests came alive. The 2023 Summer Collection has gorgeous pieces that were made with skin-friendly fabrics and variances of bright colours. It is a collection for the women who love nightlife and wanderlust. They are comfortable and elegant wears that improve the aura of the wearer, as each easily turns them into centre of attraction. The cuts are proportionate to the style and each design reflects an expression of contemporary fashion.
The launch event also complemented the theme of the collection, as it featured spoken word poetry and canvas painting that warmed the soul artistically.
With the designs sitting pretty on the mannequins, it became evident that FoCouture has produced a collection that is endearing to introverted women, making them to be more confident, elegant and attractive.
