Flying Eagles ordered to fast for Cote d’Ivoire clash

Flying Eagles

SCORENigeria has specially learnt that the Flying Eagles have gone spiritual in their quest to qualify for the 2027 U20 AFCON by embarking on fasting.

The Flying Eagles will Wednesday take on host nation Cote d’Ivoire in a dicey semifinal of the WAFU B qualifying tournament for the U20 AFCON.

This was after they failed to get at least a draw with Burkina Faso in their final Group B match Sunday.

Had they got a result against Burkina Faso, they would have won the group and that way tackle second-placed Niger in a less daunting semifinal.

Only the two finalists will qualify for next year’s U20 AFCON to be staged by Ghana.

“The boys didn’t train on Monday, they were ordered to fast so that God can give them the day against the host country on Wednesday,” a top source informed SCORENigeria.

“They will now have a light workout tomorrow ahead of the semifinal.”

The loss to Burkina Faso has thrown the team into confusion as they all admit Cote d’Ivoire will be a better opponent than Niger.

The host country have won their two group games, 5-0 vs Benin and 2-0 vs Niger.
