Flu slows down Team Nigeria at FIBA Africa U-18 Afrobasket

Health issues contributed to Nigeria’s 64-80 loss to their Ugandan opponents on Sunday at the 2024 FIBA Under 18 Afrobasket for women in South Africa.

The Junior DTigress are reportedly battling flu which has impacted their performances at the tournament.

In their opening day action, the Nigerian ladies fell 60-72 to their Egyptian foes, rebounded with a 107-30 hammering of Zimbabwe before the loss to Uganda.

The Nigerian girls edged ahead of the Ugandans in the first quarter, 23-19, but turned the ball over on 39 occasions to trail their opponents in  each of the last three periods.

Free scoring Ugandan player Resty Nanangwe punished the Nigeria ladies with 31 points while pulling down 10 rebounds to accomplish a fine outing on the day.

The final group game loss against Uganda leaves Nigeria third in Pool C and the girls will be hoping to qualify for the quarterfinals as one of the best third placed teams in the competition.
