For the high-flying politician and socialite, Senator Florence Mayen Ita-Giwa, she has remained an epitome of resilience, grace, and leadership. Her life story is a blueprint for a woman of substance: courage in the face of adversity, commitment to service, and unwavering dedication to causes greater than herself.
Ita Giwa, fondly called Mma Bakassi, over the years, has distinguished herself not just as a politician and public figure, but as a woman of deep compassion and quiet humanitarian impact. She has spent decades shaping politics, championing women’s rights, and advocating human dignity, leaving an indelible mark on Nigerian public life. Even long after public office, she has remained firmly rooted in service —giving, advocating, and intervening where the need is greatest.
Widely celebrated for her grace and elegance, the ageless, stylish Ita-Giwa continues to shine even as she grows older. In spite of her age, her love for the good things of life has not waned. She has continued to step up her style game. And now, it is time, once again, to climb the mountain top and thank her creator, as she turns 80 on Thursday February 19.
Spotlight gathered that her former boss, President Obasanjo will be hosting an exclusive birthday dinner in celebration of the woman tagged ‘Effervescent Florence’ by a popular columnist some years ago with select highflier guests in attendance. Of course, she will be hosting her inner circle of friends to a thanksgiving fete at her Banana Island, Ikoyi Lagos home before the main fete.
