Flood, landslides: Chinese Govt expresses gratitude to Nigeria over heartfelt condolences, solidarity

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria, has expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the heartfelt condolences and solidarity extended to the Government and people of China over the devastating floods and landslides along the China‑Nepal border.

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria expressed the government’s appreciation in a post on X.

“Thanks for the heartfelt condolences and solidarity extended by the Federal Government of Nigeria over the devastating floods and landslides along the China‑Nepal border. The China-Nigeria friendship grows even stronger in times of difficulty, and we truly cherish this profound bond that transcends mountains and seas,” the Chinese Embassy said.

The tragic floods and landslides along the China-Nepal border which happened on August 26, 2026, resulted in the colossal loss of over 500 lives.

The unfortunate incident also left many hundreds more injured, and causing extensive destruction in areas such as Gyirong County in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR).

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria however said rescue and relief efforts are currently progressing at full speed.

“We are fully confident that, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee, people in the affected areas will overcome difficulties and rebuild their homes with resilience,” it stated.
