Heavy rainfall in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, has triggered severe flooding, forcing dozens of residents, including a correspondent of the Nigerian Tribune, Dr Adeolu Adeyemo, to flee their homes.
Adeyemo said he left home for work on Tuesday morning but returned to find his residence in Zone 10, behind the Capital area of Osogbo, completely submerged by floodwater.
According to him, about 200 residents have been displaced by the flood in the area.
“People had to run for their lives, leaving behind all their valuables,” Adeyemo said.
The Chairman of Zone 10 Oke-Arungbo community, Dr Bisi Oluwadamilare, said the area last experienced flooding of such magnitude in 2019.

He added that neighbouring Zones 11 and 12 were also severely affected, appealing to emergency relief agencies to intervene immediately and assist residents in cushioning the losses suffered.
Another affected resident, Adesola Kayode, lamented that the disaster had left many families homeless.
She urged the government to urgently commence the dredging of local rivers and waterways to prevent a recurrence.
The situation was also dire at Baruwa Estate in the Ogo-Oluwa area, where residents were displaced after the nearby Osun River overflowed its banks following torrential rainfall.
Findings also showed that parts of Ilesa West were affected by flooding.
