  • Five persons have been arrested by the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN) in Kano for alleged violation of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2022.

While three were arrested at Kurmi and Dalan Gyadi markets for breaking the PCN seals earlier placed on their illegal pharmaceutical outlets, two others were arrested for operating illegal premises in these prohibited markets.

Briefing journalists on the enforcement exercise conducted in some parts of the state capital on Thursday, Head of Enforcement of the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, Suleiman Chiroma, stated that breaking official seals, reopening sealed premises or operating pharmaceutical businesses without PCN approval were grave violations of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2022.

He disclosed that the five offenders would be arraigned before the Federal High Court for prosecution as provided by law.

“The PCN Legal Team is on ground to ensure that the legal process is duly completed,” he stated.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Dalan Gyadi and Kurmi Markets remain prohibited locations for the sale of medicines,” he added.

“We strongly advise the public to purchase medicines only from PCN-licensed and properly regulated facilities where product quality, safety, and professional oversight are guaranteed,” he said.

“The Council remains resolute and will continue to work with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to rid Nigeria of unwholesome pharmaceutical practices. We urge all practitioners and members of the public to cooperate with PCN in the interest of public health,” he concluded.
