FirstBank has announced its sponsorship of the inaugural Sustainability Professionals Institute of Nigeria (SPIN) Sustainability Conference, scheduled to hold on August 20, 2026, in Lagos.
The conference, with the theme, “The Adaptive Enterprise: Sustainability Strategies for Challenging Times,” will take place at Eko Hotel & Suites and bring together business leaders, sustainability professionals, policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, academics and development partners.
The organisers said the conference would focus on practical strategies for building resilient and adaptable organisations amid growing economic, environmental and social challenges.
FirstBank’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Olusegun Alebiosu, will serve as the Guest Speaker, while the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, Aminu Umar Sadiq, will deliver the keynote address.
Other speakers include FirstBank Executive Director, Risk Directorate, Biyi Olagbami, and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Finance and Stakeholder Engagement, Ibrahim Shelleng.
Alebiosu said sustainability remained central to the bank’s long-term business strategy and its efforts to create value for its stakeholders.
“Sustainability is central to our vision of building a resilient institution that creates enduring value for all stakeholders, it underpins long-term economic growth, institutional resilience, and shared prosperity,” he said.
He said organisations could no longer focus solely on shareholder returns without considering their wider impact on society and the environment.
“In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, organisations must create value not only for shareholders but also for society and the environment,” Alebiosu said.
He added that FirstBank was supporting the conference because of the need to encourage wider discussions around sustainable development and responsible business practices.

FirstBank, an institutional member of SPIN, said its sponsorship was consistent with its broader sustainability agenda, which includes financial inclusion, economic empowerment and corporate governance.
The bank said it had continued to support initiatives aimed at helping businesses, communities and institutions create long-term economic and social value.
President of SPIN, Prof. Kenneth Amaeshi, said the inaugural conference reflected the institute’s efforts to move sustainability beyond regulatory compliance and make it an integral part of organisational leadership.
Participants at the conference are expected to discuss issues including adaptive leadership, resilient business models, sustainable finance, environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting, climate resilience, innovation, corporate governance and long-term value creation.
The conference comes shortly after SPIN inducted 79 new sustainability professionals into the institute in June 2026.
The institute said the induction further strengthened its professional community and its efforts to promote sustainability leadership and practice in Nigeria and across Africa.
The conference is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders from the public and private sectors to exchange ideas on how organisations can remain resilient and competitive while responding to emerging environmental, social and economic pressures.
