First Lady celebrates Nigerian workers as “backbone of development” on 2025 Workers’ Day

On Workers’ Day 2025, Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, praised the nation’s workforce as the “driving force behind our nation’s progress”.

In a heartfelt message, she commended workers’ resilience across formal and informal sectors, recognising their vital role in the country’s development.

“Across all sectors, whether public or private, formal or informal, Nigerian workers remain the backbone of our development and the driving force behind our nation’s progress,” she said. Mrs Tinubu highlighted the “dignity of labour” and urged for equitable opportunities, stating, “This year’s celebration is a reminder of the dignity of labour and the importance of creating opportunities that are fair to all. I salute the men and women who rise each day to go to work and support our economy.”

She expressed gratitude to workers for their commitment to nation-building, adding, “I offer my heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to all Nigerian workers for your commitment to nation-building.”

Mrs Tinubu concluded with a prayer: “May your efforts continue to yield fruit, and may we, as a nation, always uphold the value of your labour.”
