First Lady of Nigeria Oluremi Tinubu has urged women to support one another’s ambitions, saying collective backing will accelerate efforts to break glass ceilings and increase female representation in leadership positions.
According to a statement signed by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, Mrs Tinubu made the remarks on Tuesday when she received Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, the President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), in audience at her office in Abuja.
“This victory means a lot for women in general,” the First Lady said. “You should set the bar and make room for other women coming behind you. In the judiciary now, women are holding sway — the Chief Judge is a woman, the President of the Court of Appeal is a woman and now you are the President-elect of the NBA. Women are achieving a lot.”
The First Lady described the NBA team’s visit as memorable and prayed for a successful tenure for Badejo-Okusanya. “This is a visit that would be remembered by my office for a long time to come. I can only pray for you and wish you a successful tenure,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu also commended Professor Foluke Dada-Lawanson, the other female contestant for the NBA presidency, for stepping down and mobilising support for the President-elect. She called the gesture “a demonstration of rare sportsmanship.”
Badejo-Okusanya, who was elected on 19 July 2026 as the 33rd President of the NBA, paid tribute to the First Lady for her philanthropic work through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). Her election is widely hailed as a milestone, as she is the first woman directly elected to the post and the second female to lead the association.
“Your job with the RHI, in addition to being the First Lady, looks like a full-time job. You have set an example for others to emulate. We thank you for all that you have been doing,” the NBA President-elect said, praising Senator Tinubu’s focus on vulnerable Nigerians.
Badejo-Okusanya told the First Lady that the purpose of the visit was to share the joy of her achievement and seek collaboration. She pledged the NBA’s readiness to partner with the RHI to provide pro bono legal services for vulnerable groups where needed.
