Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has officially launched a Social Investment Programme aimed at providing relief to vulnerable groups in Nasarawa State.

The initiative, flagged off on Tuesday at the Government House in Lafia, includes a Food Outreach Scheme for Persons with Disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

Speaking at the event, which saw attendance from dignitaries including the State Deputy Governor, the Emir of Lafia, the State APC Chairman, and the State First Lady, Tinubu assured that more palliatives would be provided to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians.

Represented by Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, the wife of the Vice President, she highlighted the collaborative efforts with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to distribute fertilizer and food items to vulnerable communities.

“In addition to the one truck of food supplies, we are committed to working closely with relevant ministries to ensure continuous support,” Tinubu said.

“Plans have been concluded to provide a grant of fifty thousand naira each to one thousand women from each of the thirty-six states, with Nasarawa as the pilot state.”

She said the Renewed Hope Initiative, encompassing agricultural, educational, and economic empowerment programs, aims to provide comprehensive support to underprivileged Nigerians.

“This scheme is designed to uplift and empower our citizens, ensuring they have the necessary resources to improve their livelihoods,” Tinubu added.

The first lady reiterated her dedication to addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable populations, with leaders and dignitaries vowing to support the ongoing efforts.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by his deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, praised the initiative. “The First Lady’s conception of this programme is a testament to her dedication to supporting the underprivileged,” he said.

“This effort complements the Federal Government’s commitment to achieving zero hunger in Nigeria.”

Governor Sule reiterated Nasarawa State’s alignment with federal efforts in distributing palliatives. “We have been proactive in reaching out to the poorest of the poor to alleviate their suffering,” Dr. Akabe emphasised. “Our commitment remains firm in ensuring that no one is left behind.”

Daily Sun reports that the event saw various speakers expressing their support and appreciation for the First Lady’s efforts. Emir of Lafia, Retired Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed, lauded the initiative as timely and impactful. “This programme is a significant step towards mitigating the challenges faced by our most vulnerable citizens,” he noted.

State APC Chairman, Hon. Aliyu Bello, echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the positive impact of the scheme. “We are witnessing a dedicated approach to addressing the pressing needs of our people,” Bello stated.

Sheila Tosan Akabe, wife of the State Deputy Governor, and Hon. Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, the State’s only female legislator and Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, also shared their commendations. “This initiative is a beacon of hope for many struggling families,” said Danyaro, representing the State Assembly Speaker.

Participants and beneficiaries who spoke to Daily Sun at the event expressed optimism about the positive changes the programme would bring. “We are grateful for the First Lady’s unwavering support,” said one beneficiary, reflecting the general sentiment.
