First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for greater investment in opportunities that would enable young Nigerians to realise their full potential and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Mrs Tinubu made the call in her message to mark the 2026 International Youth Day, observed globally on Wednesday, with the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
She noted that although young people come from diverse backgrounds and face varying challenges, they share common aspirations, including access to quality education, meaningful employment, equal opportunities and a more sustainable future.
The First Lady urged Nigerian youths to remain focused and hardworking, while leveraging education, innovation, entrepreneurship and active citizenship to pursue their aspirations.
She encouraged them to use their talents and opportunities to fulfil their potential and contribute to building a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
“Although young people come from diverse backgrounds and face different circumstances, they share common aspirations for quality education, meaningful employment, equal opportunities, and a more sustainable future,” she said.
Mrs Tinubu also called on stakeholders to renew their commitment to supporting and empowering young people by creating an enabling environment where they can develop their abilities and play productive roles in society.
“As we commemorate this day, let us renew our commitment to supporting and empowering young people by creating opportunities for them to realise their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society,” she said.
She wished Nigerian youths a happy International Youth Day, urging them to remain committed to their dreams and their role in shaping the country’s future.
