As the health sector witnessed brain drain over time thereby creating deep specialist care gaps in the country, the duo of Dr. Ebi Ofrey and Dr. Ajibola Meraiyebu decided to not only stay in Nigeria, but also invest their time and effort to take care of the elderly.
They created Gerocare, the first and leading geriatrics care solution in Nigeria, five years ago. According to the founders, Gerocare is a health technology mobile App that help people access healthcare wherever they are.
“Gerocare, is a developed subscription-based service for parents and the elderly that gives them access to regular doctor home visits and to ensure any threats to their health is discovered early and taken care of.”
Explaining how it works, they disclosed that Gerocare operates as a subscription-based service via www.gerocare.org . “Children and relatives of Nigerian elderly can buy a subscription of doctor’s visits for their parents and relatives. A doctor visits the elderly parents and gives a detailed report to the sponsors per time.
“Your parents deserve long, fruitful and healthy years in their old age, no matter the village your aged parent lives, Gerocare will get to them. It is simply a service that allow Nigerians wherever they may be, within or outside Nigeria to subscribe for regular doctor home visits for their parents and elderly ones in Nigeria, to ensure they not only live longer but have an improved quality of life, giving us one less thing to worry about, while we face other aspects of our lives.
“It provides the added advantage of providing them real time update on the care of their parents via the GeroCare mobile application. Gerocare is available in the 36 states of the federation. Our services are directly and indirectly; in this case, the families, while about 115’000 users have received care directly. “
They stressed that Gerocare is medical inclusion, which offers preventive care and is affordable from N10,000, depending on the required service provided: “We would be moving to African countries starting with Ethiopia and South Africa before the year runs out.
“This August, the premier geriatric solution in Nigeria, Gerocare, would be celebrating five outstanding years of elderly care in the country.”
To mark the anniversary, the founders and management of Gerocare have put together activities in two phases ranging from recreating of parents look, parent dance challenge to health walk.
“The first phase, recreate your parents look challenge, take an old picture of your parents younger version in whatever dress code or situation, recreate the picture by snapping yourself in similar dress/pose, make a collage of both pictures side by side, post on media handles, tag “Gerocare hashtags, highest number of likes, retweets, etc wins).
“Also, record a TikTok video of you and your parents/elderly loved one above 55years dancing a Krump Studio Dance sequence, post, tag, hashtags, highest likes/shares wins while entries closes August 28, 2022. Winner is announced August 29, 2022. There are prizes/grand prizes to be won.”
