Cowrywise Financial Technology Ltd, through its subsidiary CFTL Digital Services Ltd, has partnered with Meristem Stockbrokers to launch a new stock investment feature on the Cowrywise app. The partnership aims to increase retail investor access to the Nigerian capital market.
The collaboration combines Cowrywise’s digital investment platform with Meristem’s stockbroking infrastructure to enable smartphone-based stock purchases with a minimum investment of ₦5,000. The platform provides access to shares of up to 140 companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange.
The Nigerian equities market recorded strong performance in July 2025, with the NGX All-Share Index rising 16.57% to 139,863.5 points. Market capitalisation increased by ₦12.62 trillion to reach ₦88.4 trillion, driven by positive earnings and increased investor participation.
The new “Stocks by Cowrywise” feature, demonstrated by Product Lead Yarmirama Ashama, includes a real-time market dashboard, company liquidity ratings, educational content, and investment insights for listed companies. Founded in 2017 by CEO Razaq Ahmed (CFA) and Edward Popoola, Cowrywise operates a digital investment platform that allows users to begin investing from ₦5,000. The company’s stated mission is to make investing accessible through mobile technology.
“Our users can begin investing with as little as ₦5,000. With this new stock product, we’re creating even more opportunities for Nigerians to grow their financial futures,” said Grillo Adebiyi, Marketing Manager at Cowrywise.
Meristem Stockbrokers, led by Bashir Saheed Adewale (FCA, FCS), will handle trade execution and provide regulatory compliance infrastructure. The company has over 20 years of stockbroking experience and previously won the NGX Digital Broker of the Year Award in 2018. In 2017, Meristem executed the largest single trade in the Nigerian Exchange’s history.
“Our infrastructure and commitment to best execution ensure that every investor, no matter their background, has access to world-class capital market services,” said Adefemi Taiwo, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Meristem.
CFTL Digital Services Ltd, Cowrywise’s subsidiary, is licensed as a digital sub-broker to provide brokerage services in partnership with Meristem Stockbrokers Limited.
